As I stood on the stage at TEDxAUB, I couldn’t help but feel a mix of nervousness and excitement. I was about to share my insights on old school parenting through comedy, a topic that I am truly passionate about. The video of my talk, titled “Old School Parenting – Insights Through Comedy,” was about to be released to the world, and I hoped that my message would resonate with parents everywhere.

I started my talk by reminiscing about my own childhood, and the way my parents raised me. Growing up in a traditional Middle Eastern household, I was taught the values of discipline, respect, and hard work from a young age. My parents had high expectations for me, and they were not afraid to discipline me when I stepped out of line.

While some may argue that old school parenting is too strict or authoritarian, I believe that there are valuable lessons to be learned from this style of parenting. In my talk, I shared how old school parenting taught me the importance of responsibility, independence, and resilience. These are qualities that have served me well throughout my life, and I am grateful to my parents for instilling them in me.

One of the key points I made in my talk is that old school parenting is not about being harsh or punitive towards your children. It is about setting clear boundaries and expectations, and holding your children accountable for their actions. By doing so, you teach them the value of respect and discipline, and help them develop the self-discipline needed to succeed in life.

Throughout my talk, I used humor to illustrate my points and keep the audience engaged. I shared anecdotes from my own childhood, as well as funny stories from my experiences as a parent. I believe that comedy is a powerful tool for delivering messages, as it allows people to let their guard down and connect with the material on a deeper level.

One of the key takeaways from my talk is the importance of finding a balance between old school parenting and modern parenting techniques. While old school parenting can teach valuable lessons, it is also important to adapt to the times and embrace new approaches to parenting. This may include being more empathetic, fostering open communication with your children, and being willing to listen to their perspectives.

As the video of my talk was released to the world, I felt a sense of pride and accomplishment. I hoped that my message would inspire parents to reflect on their own parenting styles, and consider how they can incorporate the values of old school parenting into their approach. While parenting is a challenging and rewarding journey, I believe that by combining the best of old school and modern parenting techniques, we can raise happy, healthy, and successful children.

I am grateful for the opportunity to share my insights on old school parenting through comedy at TEDxAUB, and I hope that my message will resonate with parents around the world. Parenting is not an easy task, but by approaching it with humor, empathy, and a willingness to learn and grow, we can all become better parents and raise the next generation of responsible and resilient individuals.
