The Met Gala is known for pushing fashion boundaries and showcasing the most glamorous and edgy looks of the year. However, as the event unfolded in front of my eyes, I quickly realized that this year’s theme of “Fashion Forward” would lead to some disappointing fashion choices.
From the moment the first celebrity stepped onto the red carpet, I knew we were in for a rough ride. The usual fashion icons seemed to have missed the mark entirely, opting for safe and uninspired looks that lacked the creativity and boldness we have come to expect from the Met Gala.
One of the most disappointing moments of the night came when a well-known actress arrived in a simple black gown that could have easily been mistaken for a funeral dress. Where was the drama? The glamour? The risk-taking that we love to see at the Met Gala? It seemed like this celebrity played it safe to avoid any potential backlash, but in doing so, she failed to make a statement that would have landed her on the best-dressed list.
Another celebrity who left me scratching my head was a famous pop star who chose to wear a men’s suit to the event. While gender-neutral fashion is certainly a trend that should be celebrated, this look felt lazy and uninspired. It seemed like the star simply grabbed whatever was lying around in their closet and called it a day. Where was the creativity? The edge? The fashion-forward thinking that the Met Gala is all about?
As the night went on, I found myself increasingly disappointed by the lackluster fashion choices on display. The red carpet, which is usually a hub of excitement and awe, felt flat and uninspiring. It seemed like the theme of “Fashion Forward” had been completely missed by the majority of attendees, who opted for safe and forgettable looks instead of taking risks and pushing boundaries.

As the night came to a close, I couldn’t help but feel disappointed. The 2024 Met Gala Fashion Roast was a far cry from the glamorous and boundary-pushing event I had hoped for. Instead of inspiring awe and admiration, the event left me feeling underwhelmed and let down.
Perhaps next year’s Met Gala will bring back the excitement and creativity that has been sorely lacking in recent years.
