In this video, I’ll walk you through each item in my gearlist, including my bike setup, clothing, shelter, cooking supplies, and more. So, let’s dive in!
Bike Setup:
For this trip, I’ll be riding my trusty gravel bike, equipped with 29-inch wheels and a carbon frame. I’ve also added a handlebar bag, frame bag, and saddle bag to carry all my gear. In addition, I’ve installed a rear rack for extra storage space.
To keep my bike running smoothly, I always carry a multi-tool, tire levers, a spare tube, and a mini pump. These essentials are a lifesaver in case of any mechanical issues on the road.
Clothing:
When it comes to clothing, I pack light but versatile items that will keep me comfortable in a variety of weather conditions. My clothing essentials include:
- 1 pair of padded cycling shorts
- 2 moisture-wicking cycling jerseys
- 1 lightweight windbreaker
- 1 pair of leg warmers
- 1 pair of arm warmers
- 1 pair of cycling gloves
- 1 pair of cycling socks
- 1 beanie hat
With these items, I can easily layer up or down depending on the temperature and stay comfortable throughout the day.
Shelter:
For shelter, I rely on a lightweight bivy sack and a compact sleeping bag. The bivy sack provides protection from the elements while keeping my pack size to a minimum. I also carry a small tarp to use as a groundsheet or shelter in case of heavy rain.
To get a good night’s sleep, I bring along a comfortable inflatable sleeping pad and a compact pillow. These items may seem like luxuries, but they make a world of difference after a long day of riding.
Cooking Supplies:
When it comes to cooking on the road, simplicity is key. I carry a lightweight camping stove, a small pot, and a set of utensils for preparing meals. I also bring along a compact coffee maker for my morning brew, as coffee is non-negotiable for me.
My food supplies include dehydrated meals, energy bars, nuts, and dried fruits. These items provide the necessary fuel to keep me going throughout the day without weighing me down.
Navigation:
Navigation is essential when embarking on a long bikepacking trip. I use a GPS device preloaded with maps of the route, as well as a set of printed maps as a backup. In addition, I carry a power bank to keep my devices charged throughout the journey.
As an extra precaution, I always let someone know my planned route and expected timeline before setting off on a trip. Safety should always be a top priority when exploring new terrain.
Extras:
Lastly, I always carry a few extra items that come in handy during a bikepacking adventure. These include:
- Sunscreen and lip balm
- A headlamp for night riding
- A lightweight first aid kit
- An emergency whistle
- A small repair kit for my bike
These extras may seem small, but they can make a big difference in case of an emergency or unexpected situation on the road.
